Things To Consider When Purchasing Used Injection Molding Machines
If you have
decided to try your luck in the plastic part manufacturing business, you should
look for the right injection molding machine to use. Depending on your budget, you can either purchase
brand new injection molders or opt for used injection molding machines.
Whatever you do, there are many things you need to consider to be able to
choose a machine that will not let you down.
One of the
important things you should consider is shot size. This is simply the maximum
amount of plastic that the injection molder is capable of injecting into the mold
cavity in one molding cycle. When selecting used injection molding machines, it
is always good practice to choose a machine that can produce 30 to 40 percent
greater shot sizes compared to what your parts require.
Another
thing you should consider when choosing used injection molding machines to
use in your business is the ejector stroke. Simply put, the ejector stroke
refers to the action of the machine pushing out the final workpiece from
platens using ejector pins. In the molding machine, the ejector pushes against
an ejector plate on the mold. The ejector pins are attached to the plate and are
responsible for performing a push operation on the molded part after the
plastic has hardened and the mold has opened.
After the
workpiece has been molded, the mold opens and the ejector pins slowly extend
outwards, something that causes the finished part to be pushed out of the mold
cavity. The pin movement is timed with
the mold opening, since the pins that move too quickly could impact the plastic
workpiece and cause damage to the final product. If the pins move very slowly,
they may not be able to fully eject the molded part.
